01 ✦ The Entry Point
Talent is where it starts.
Talent is the entry point. It is not the whole equation.
Talent gets an athlete noticed. It earns the tryout, the roster spot, the offer, the conversation. What it does not do is tell the athlete how to handle any of what follows — the pressure, the people, the decisions, the setbacks, the transitions and the attention that arrive with opportunity.
Training develops what an athlete can do. Emotional intelligence influences what they do with it.
The foundation
At The Kanvass, emotional intelligence is not an add-on, a workshop, or a single leadership module. It is the foundation beneath how we develop athletes.
That is a deliberate position. Every other capability an athlete builds — business literacy, brand clarity, financial readiness, career direction — sits on top of how well they understand themselves, manage themselves, read a room and build a relationship.
“Talent is what an athlete can do. Emotional intelligence influences what they do with it.”
